Natural/Raw Rock sugar adds a hearty punch of sweetness to black teas. Natural/Raw sugar is less delicate that white sugar can granules. These sugar crystals take longer to dissolve, especially in cold drinks. Pairs well with any tea but is more suitable for hot teas.
Honey effectively removes bitterness and brings out floral notes; however, it should not be boiled to remain effective and should be added in moderation as it is usually very sweet. Raw Honey pairs well with green teas, bitter teas and some citrus/fruit flavored teas.
Agave syrup has half as much sugar as honey or table sugar for a similar kick of sweetness. Agave syrup can be quite sweet. It can be used in small amounts and is especially well-suited to subtler white and oolong teas. Agave syrup is one syrup that has a low glycemic index. Agave pairs well with strong teas and black teas also.
Maple syrup has fewer calories than honey but similar sweetness; both Maple Syrup and more mildly sweet brown rice syrups mutually complement nutty and fruity teas, especially lemon and citrus teas.
Coconut oil adds a lightly sweet, earthy flavor but should be added in small amounts. Coconut oil is a very mild sweetener.
Coconut sugar offers a similar sweetness as table sugar but with a lower glycemic rating.
Blackstrap molasses adds a toasty, bitter flavor so should be used with bold, powerful teas. If used with milder teas, the molasses taste will overpower the actual flavor of the tea itself.
Simple syrup provides a liquefied variation on white sugar for use in cold drinks, in particular. Simple syrup blends well in iced teas and chai tea. Is does amazing wonders to a cold pitcher of fruit flavored tea.
Artificial Sweeteners can be used but are not highly recommended by Me Time Tea Time since many of these sweeteners are commercially created products and most contain chemicals that may be reflected in their tastes. Hence the term “artificial”. However we do understand that many are looking for ways to reduce their intake of sugar and reduce calories without having to sacrifice sweetness and taste. There are a number of commercial sweeteners, most of which contain little to no calories at all such as Zero, Equal, Splenda, Sweet’ N Low, Truvia, and Zero.
Many people choose to add dairy or non-dairy creams to their teas. It all depends on personal preference. However most cream enhancements are added to bold black teas such as Ceylon teas, Chai teas, English tea and Earl Grey teas. Here are a few of our favorites…
· Whole milk
· Skim-milk
· Creamer
· Half & half
· Almond milk,
· Coconut milk
· Rice milk
· Soymilk

Here’s a list of fan favorites...
